Cast a Big Shadow…

A teacher once told me “if you carry big light you cast a big shadow.”

Simply put, if you’re actively trying to make a difference in the world, charge it with enthusiasm or inspiration or light, there’s work to be done in the unconscious. Wherever you relegate the unwanted aspects of yourself, there lies both opportunity and treasure.

Somewhere along the way shadow aspects have got a bad rap. Weakness, vulnerability, tenderness, doubt, Selfishness, judgment, impatience, anxiety, depression, anger and yet if you think about all of the ginormous strides you have made in your life, most of them happened during the dark times, the hard times, the murky shadowy confusing times.

We need to find a way to embrace our challenging aspects. What we don’t love, what we don’t embrace, WHAT WE DON’T INCLUDE has power over us.

So today, a bright day in Edinburgh with the sun out playing with Mr. Blue Sky, we pause to consider all the dark. It grows things. It holds secrets and wisdom and potential. Mine it. Do not be afraid or daunted by what makes you too much, not enough, wrong or bad or selfish or bitchy or hard to get along with.

You can’t have the all the light you love without casting a shadow. Might as well make it your friend.
